About Us

KD5GMX.com employs a Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2 for its weather data. The system is the first and only weather station in its class to use frequency hopping spread spectrum radio technology to transmit weather data wirelessly up to 1000 feet. It consists of the Vantage Pro2 console/receiver and integrated sensor suite (ISS), which includes a tipping bucket rain gauge, temperature and humidity sensors, anemometer, and solar panel. Temperature and humidity sensors are enclosed in a patented radiation shield. The radiation shield combines active and passive aspiration to minimize the effects of radiation on the weather readings. The ISS is solar powered and electronic components are housed in a weather-resistant shelter.

The KD5GMX.com weather station is located in Damascus, AR. The latitude and longitude of the station are 35.367056° North, -92.41476° West and the elevation is approximately 723 feet above sea level. The sensor suite, except the anemometer (wind sensor), is mounted about six feet above ground level, while the anemometer is at approximately 20 feet above ground level.  Weather data is transmitted wirelessly to the Vantage Pro2 console/receiver, logged, and then sent by serial connection to the weather server computer, where it is fed into Ambient Software's Virtual Weather Station software for processing and distribution to KD5GMX.com Weather Net, Weather Underground, WeatherForYou, and other online weather sites. The station is also part of the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) (KD5GMX), which is used by the National Weather Service.

Our weather website is accessible at kd5gmx.com, or liveweather.us!

The console receives all the data from the ISS, wirelessly, and processes the data, which is displayed on the screen, and sent to the weather computer.

The data is displayed on the monitor of the weather computer.  The computer will then log into the server,  and upload (update) all information every 1 minute, giving you the most

updated CURRENT data available.

We also utilize Storm Predator, to upload the current radar image to the server every 5 minutes.  You might notice if you are on the website, that the radar image may shift from location to location.  The reason this happens is that we have the ability to grab current radar shots from numerous locations, in all 50 states, all updated every 5 minutes.  This is especially useful during the hurricane season, or during severe weather.
